POSITION OPENING: Manager of Public Programs
DEPARTMENT: Education Department

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Manager of Public Programs develops and implements creative interpretive programs for adults in the museum and offsite. Programs include lectures, film and video series, performing arts programs, educational workshops, gallery interpreters, and courses plus new initiatives to reach a diverse audience. Successful candidate will be encouraged to try new formats for programs that engage audiences using museum resources in innovative ways. The Manager sets long term goals, establishes budgets and determines priorities for the public programs in conjunction with the Vice President, Education and Programs, and other members of the Education team. The Manager will collaborate with staff throughout the museum including the curatorial, development, public relations and marketing departments. The Manager reports directly to the Vice President, Education and Programs. Production of events will require working some weekends and evenings throughout the year.

REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidate will be a highly professional, well organized detail oriented team player, with a graduate degree in studio art, arts and design history or arts education plus a minimum of 3 years experience in programming in a museum or related institution. Candidate should have a sense of humor and a deep personal interest in design, contemporary art and media in addition to hands on experience in object making.

Candidate should have excellent general knowledge of art and design history, performing arts and film. Management of projects and personnel and the ability to work effectively and diplomatically with museum staff at all levels is necessary. Excellent writing and research skills are essential. Open Call for Submissions for "Moving Paper: An International Film Festival of Cut Paper Animations"

The Museum of Arts and Design in New York City is organizing an invitational international cut paper animation film festival exact dates TBD) in conjunction with the exhibition Slash: Paper under the Knife. The exhibition, on view from October 7, 2009 to April 4, 2010, takes the pulse on paper cutting, a traditional technique and material that has risen to international prominence in the art world in recent years.

Artists Wanted for Open Studios Program at the Museum of Arts and Design 

The Museum of Arts and Design is seeking several working artists for the Open Studios Program. Successful candidates will have extensive background working predominately in three-dimensional materials and processes, utilizing one or more of the following mediums – clay, cold work glass, wood, fiber or metal. The studios are open for the public to interact informally with the working artist during regular museum hours.  Teaching experience is a plus. Artists are highly encouraged to visit the Open Studios at MAD to fully understand the structure of the program. 

The positions are temporary adjunct part-time. This residency will run for approximately 3 months; each artist will work one regularly scheduled day/week, with one additional evening shift per month. Participating artists will also have the opportunity to display their work in the museum’s 6th floor vitrines for the duration of their own residency as well as the following 3-4 months. Each artist will also have their bio and two images of their work featured on MAD’s website.
